Freshman netminder Eric Schierhorn earned his second career shutout with Minnesota as the Gophers opened a home-and-home series with a 4-0 win against Minnesota State-Mankato.
The freshman made 31 saves as the Gophers improved to 4-4-0 for the season. Four different Gophers scored to set the final tally. Justin Kloos (shorthanded), Taylor Cammarata, Vinni Lettieri and Leon Bristedt scored in the winning effort.
After a rough start to the year, the Gophers appear to have found a bit of a scoring touch and have won four of their past five games.
The rivalry continues Saturday night as the Gophers host the Mavericks and Mariucci Arena in search of a series sweep.
