PAROLE, Md. (AP) -- The Anne Arundel County Health Department is warning swimmers to stay out of the water at three beaches after tests show high bacteria levels. Officials are closing Beverly Beach on the Chesapeake Bay near Mayo, London Towne at Arundel Road Beach on the South River in Edgewater and Upper Magothy Beach on the Magothy River in Severna Park.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro officials say they're investigating reports of problems with the emergency call system on a red line train after a fight broke out. Passengers report that they tried to use the emergency call system last night to alert the driver about the fight near the Woodley Park station, but they got no response.

MACON, Ga. (AP) -- Parents of a slain Mercer University law school graduate want investigators to search farmland in central Georgia in hopes of finding her remains. The parents of 27-year-old Lauren Giddings are asking a federal judge to allow them to search farmland that belonged to a relative of suspect Stephen McDaniel. Giddings was from Laurel, Md.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Montgomery County Council holds a hearing tonight on proposed changes to the county's 5-cent tax on carryout bags. The bag tax is now in place for most retail stores and carryout food.
