Reading between the lines with Teddy and Case (ep 247)

Matthew Coller and Judd Zulgad discuss Mike Zimmer’s Monday press conference on the Minnesota Vikings’ future at quarterback. Why is Judd certain that the Vikings will soon turn things over to Bridgewater? Why is Matt convinced Bridgewater gives the Vikings a better chance to win? Why this storyline is making the Vikings’ season fascinating.

This is more of the local media narrative pushing Teddy as Vikings starter. All of this narrative rests upon one assumption and that is “Everyone agrees that Teddy is the more talented QB overall”. This just proves that “mass hysteria” usually leads to a single conclusion. But where is the evidence on Teddy? How does one conclude that Teddy is today the same Teddy the day before he almost lost his left leg? Was Teddy (at his very best) a better QB than Case at his very best? Maybe, maybe not. But it’s not the same Teddy they’re talking about, and these numskull writers and their hysterical associates can’t figure that out. Once again, they’ve pigeon holed their collective thinking and now they’re spewing gibberish in support of it. Should the Vikings risk losing a game in order to learn if Teddy is the same Teddy that once was? I SAY NO! Should Teddy get a chance to play if Case falters badly or gets hurt? OF COURSE, but not before then. Risking the loss of a first round bye for a look/see at Teddy is stupid. He’ll get his “shots” in due time, and that’s the only certainty here.

I don’t think Case is anywhere near Favre. I think he is a starting caliber QB mainly because of the dearth of quality QBs in the league. I don’t think he is a long term answer. BUT, 1) there is a winning streak. And 2) you don’t make a change during a winning streak. And 3) Teddy hasn’t played a game in nearly 2 years. And 4) Teddy wasn’t spectacular to begin with.
