The Minnesota Twins placed Aaron Hicks on the disabled list, recalled catcher Eric Fryer and reinstated Sam Fuld, the team announced on Friday.

Hicks, who injured his shoulder last week, hasn't seen his batting average move from .198 since giving up switch hitting to become an exclusive right-handed batter a couple weeks ago.

The Twins activated Fuld, who suffered a concussion on May 2, as he and Fryer are both in Detroit to open a three-game series on Friday night. Fryer was called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace Josmil Pinto, who was demoted Wednesday.

Second baseman Brian Dozier will also miss his first start of the season on Friday after injuring his back Wednesday in Toronto. Eduardo Escobar will fill in at 2B.
