After 4 months of dating, Christian Ponder engaged to Samantha Steele

Now this is a hurry-up offense.

Six weeks after Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder confirmed he's dating ESPN reporter Samantha Steele and roughly four months after their first meeting, the two are engaged, SI.com's Richard Deitsch reported after speaking to Steele on Tuesday.

Ponder, 24, first tipped his hand about the relationship, when he tweeted -- and then deleted -- a short message on Oct. 2 saying "hello" to Steele, 26, who was with him at the time.

On Oct. 19, he responded to countless blog posts on the subject by confirming the relationship that began on the set of ESPN's "College GameDay" show.

"I'm proud of the relationship," Ponder said. "I can brag. I've got bragging rights, I believe."
