MINNEAPOLIS -- Help finally has arrived for the Minnesota Vikings at cornerback.

Chris Cook and Cedric Griffin both were activated for Sunday's game against Detroit -- their season debuts after missing the first two games with knee injuries.

Griffin was slated to start at right cornerback, and Cook was expected to play in the nickel package.

Meanwhile, backup defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy was activated for the first time since his Aug. 22 knee injury, and rookie guard Chris DeGeare was active for the first time in his NFL career.

There were several surprise deactivations -- safety Tyrell Johnson, linebacker Erin Henderson, center Jon Cooper and defensive tackle Fred Evans, in addition to No. 3 quarterback Joe Webb, running back Albert Young, end Jayme Mitchell and end Everson Griffen.

Inactive for the Lions: quarterback Matthew Stafford, receiver Nate Burleson, running back Kevin Smith, linebacker Zack Follett, linebacker Landon Johnson, guard Manny Ramirez, tackle Jason Fox and end Willie Young.

Three Detroit starters who had been listed as questionable -- left end Cliff Avril (knee/finger), middle linebacker DeAndre Levy (groin) and right guard Stephen Peterman (foot) were active and expected to start.

Shaun Hill was the starter for Stafford, Bryant Johnson for Burleson and Ashlee Palmer for Follett.
