The father of Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl linebacker Chad Greenway is battling cancer and is getting hospice care, according to KELO Television in Sioux Falls, S.D. KELO reported the information came from a family friend.
Greenway has been absent from many of the Vikings' Organized Team Activities this spring and coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday that Greenway could miss the mandatory minicamp next week.
Frazier made it clear that if Greenway is not present his absence will be excused.
"I talked with him a few days ago and I don't know if we'll have him back for mandatory minicamp," Frazier said. "His family situation is something he's dealing with so we may or may not have him back for that but it's understandable, what he's experiencing."
According to KELO, several South Dakota farmers have gotten together to help bale hay for Alan Greenway.
