Minnesota Timberwolves forward Chase Budinger suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee during Saturday's loss at Chicago and will have surgery scheduled to repair the tear later this week.
In a statement issued by the team Sunday evening, the Wolves announced the timetable for Budinger's return will be determined after the surgery.
Budinger, who is averaging 11.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in six games this season, was injured at the 6-minute mark of the fourth quarter in an 87-80 defeat when he got his foot stuck and his knee ended up being twisted in a scrum of players. This all happened after a blocked shot at the Wolves' offensive end of the court.
Budinger was acquired by the Wolves in a trade with Houston last June.
