Cordarrelle Patterson stood out for the Vikings in December. So much, in fact, that he's earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month.

As NFC Director of Communications Randall Liu notes, Patterson is the fourth Vikings rookie to earn the distinction, following Randy Moss, Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin.

Patterson set the Vikings return record this season, and showed his potential for greatness in the process. He also became the first Vikings rookie to receive, rush and return a touchdown.

All that talent, of course, makes it curious that he was not used more often early in the season. But that patience may have paid off, as teams began to fear Patterson's returns and kicked away from him. The rookie out of Tennessee had six touchdowns in his final five games.
