MINNEAPOLIS -- Needing extra depth after the most recent barrage of injuries and illness, the Minnesota Twins have recalled outfielder Rene Tosoni from Triple-A Rochester.
To make room, the team placed outfielder Delmon Young (ribs) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19.
The left-handed hitting Tosoni, 24, hit .288/.333/.515 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 72 plate appearances for Triple-A Rochester heading into Wednesday. In 1,254 career minor league plate appearances, Tosoni has a .284/.378/.444 batting line with 27 home runs, 60 doubles and 15 triples.
Young was expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday night after a nine-day absence, but he was scratched after experiencing difficulties getting loose during batting practice.
