Nikola Pekovic won't be joining Kevin Love on the Western Conference All-Star squad.

Though it didn't come as a surprise when the full All-Star rosters were unveiled Thursday, Pekovic was not selected by the league's coaches for one of the reserve spots.

It was always a long shot in a crowded, talented field in the Western Conference, but that didn't stop the Wolves from putting up a gallant effort campaigning for the fourth-year center.

On Monday, the Wolves unveiled their "Bruise Brothers" album - an elaborate vinyl record pairing Love and Pekovic in a spoof of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's classic Blues Brothers duo.

They took it a step further during the Wolves' defeat of New Orleans on Wednesday, pairing a humorous Love-Pekovic video with the Twitter hashtag #PekGoesToo.

Alas, it was not enough.

Pekovic is currently sidelined with a sore right ankle, which has put his strong season temporarily on hold. In his first season after signing a five-year, $60 million contract, Pekovic started in all of the Wolves' first 44 games. He is averaging 18.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 32.5 minutes - all of which are career-highs.

It is hard to argue too much with how the All-Star rosters panned out.

Dwight Howard, who Love beat out for a starting spot, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dirk Nowitzki were named reserves for the Western Conference's frontcourt. Notably, Anthony Davis, Tim Duncan and DeMarcus Cousins were left off.

Maybe, just maybe, Pekovic could get a taste of the All-Star game this year, just not in the role you might think.

"I would love to bring Pek with me," Love said told reporters last week shortly after he was named an All-Star starter. "And if he doesn't make the game maybe he can be my bodyguard down there."
