A familiar face will return to the Minnesota Twins organization in 2013.

The club announced Monday that 38-year-old Doug Mientkiewicz was named manager of the Single-A Fort Myers Miracle. Mientkiewicz was previously the hitting coach for the Ogden Raptors, a rookie-league team in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

Mientkiewicz takes over for Jake Mauer, who will manager Low-A Cedar Rapids next season.

In his 12-year big league career, Mientkiewicz hit .271/.360/.405 with 66 home runs in 1,087 games. While with the Twins, Mientkiewicz -- an elite defender at first base -- hit .275/.367/.408 over parts of seven seasons prior to being traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2004.

He went on to play for the Mets, Royals, Yankees, Pirates and Dodgers before retiring in 2010.
