Former University of Minnesota basketball player Wally Ellenson announced his transfer to Marquette University on Wednesday, per his Twitter account.
I'm excited to join Marquette University and be part of the basketball family. #wearemarquette— TheKangarooKid (@wallyellenson) July 2, 2014
Ellenson, 20, was initially recruited by former Gophers hoops coach Tubby Smith and didn't see much playing time under first-year head coach Richard Pitino in 2013-14. Ellenson didn't see any minutes in the Big Ten season and chose to leave the basketball program in February, citing a focus for the Gophers' track and field team, for which he was a star athlete in the high jump.
The Rice Lake, Wis. native appeared in nine games for the Gophers last season, all in the non-conference schedule. Marquette is also heavily recruiting Wally's younger brother, Henry, for the 2015 class, per Amelia Rayno of the Star Tribune.
