Former Minnesota Gophers guard Joe Coleman has decided to continue his college basketball career at Saint Mary's. ESPN.com reported the story on Monday afternoon.

Coleman decided to transfer from Minnesota after Richard Pitino was named to replace Tubby Smith as the Gophers coach. Coleman averaged 8.7 points last season in 26 minutes a game.

"It came down to the fact that coach (Randy) Bennett has been able to develop guards and also that they have playing time available," Coleman told ESPN.com. "When coach Smith left, I decided I wanted to go somewhere that I could expand my game."

Coleman must sit out this coming season and then will have two years of eligibility remaining. Coleman also visited Creighton, according to ESPN.com, and drew interest from Gonzaga, Florida State and Oregon.
