It's about time.
Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was named American League Manager of the Year on Wednesday for the first time.
Gardenhire received 16 first-place votes, and Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington received 10 first-place votes from participating members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Gardenhire had previously finished runner up five times -- in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
The Twins won 94 games this past season despite losing closer Joe Nathan to Tommy John surgery in March and first baseman Justin Morneau to a concussion in early July.
