The Minnesota Twins' best reliever all season is headed to the disabled list.
Left-hander Glen Perkins left Saturday's 9-6 loss at Arizona with a medium oblique strain and will be placed on the 15-day DL before Sunday's game, manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters.
In a media release sent a little after 2 a.m. Central, the Twins officially announced the move and said they have recalled another left-hander, Dusty Hughes, from Class-AAA Rochester.
Perkins entered Saturday with a 1.19 earned-run average in 22 2/3 innings over 21 appearances this season. He threw five pitches in the eighth inning to Miguel Montero, who ended up singling, and immediately waved to the dugout for help.
Hughes had a 10.13 ERA in 10 2/3 innings over 12 appearances when the Twins sent him down on May 6. He has allowed three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings with the Red Wings. Hughes is expected to be in uniform for Sunday's series finale at Arizona.
