Gophers, Pitino lure former Eastview standout Joey King from Drake

A Gophers basketball source told 1500 ESPN's Darren Wolfson that former Eastview star Joey King verbally committed to the 'U' on Sunday.

King, a Drake transfer, tweeted the news as well, saying "Ive accepted a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Minnesota. Could not be more excited to be a gopher."

The 6-9 King averaged 6.9 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 35% from three-point range in 19 minutes per game in his freshman season at Drake.

King is working on getting a waiver to be eligible right away. His presence would eat up one of the two remaining scholarships for the 2013-2014 season.

A Gophers source told Wolfson King has a "high IQ, is a competitor, and bleeds maroon and gold." The source also noted King is a "pick and pop 4 who stretches the defense and makes shots."

The last scholarship for 2013-2014 will go to Rutgers transfer Derrick Randall or FIU transfer Rakeem Buckles, per a source.
