Much of the college basketball recruiting hype in Minnesota has surrounded the state's "big three" -- Tyus Jones, Rashad Vaughn and Reid Travis.

But Lakeville North guard J.P. Macura, also a member of the Class of 2014, is starting to gain increasing attention on the recruiting trail.

Macura was hosted on campus on Wednesday by the Minnesota Gophers, a source told KSTP-TV producer and 1500ESPN.com contributor Darren Wolfson. As a result of the meeting, the Gophers are likely to extend a scholarship offer to Macura soon.

New Gophers basketball coach Richard Pitino, who is currently on vacation, has talked with Macura by phone. Assistant coach Ben Johnson led Macura on a tour of campus Wednesday.

Macura, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard, was one of the state's top high school scorers last season, averaging 25.4 points per game (52% from 3-point range) for Lakeville North. Rivals.com ranks him as a three-star prospect, while ESPN.com has Macura's overall recruiting rating at 70.

Iowa State, Kansas State and Boston College are among the schools that have already offered Macura.
