The Minnesota Golden Gophers football squad jumped out to a 14-0 lead, blew it, then scored a late touchdown to defeat Middle Tennessee State, 24-17 on Thursday night.

The story for Tim Brewster's bunch revolved around the running game. The Gophers rushed for 281 yards on 67 carries. Junior Duane Bennett ran 30 times for 187 yards, and senior fullback Jon Hoese ran eight times for 26 yards and three touchdowns.
