Gophers football's 2012 season-opener against UNLV rescheduled

Jerry Kill's Gophers will be one of the first teams to kick-off the 2012 football season.
In an expeted move, the Gophers' season-opener against UNLV has been rescheduled, the two universities announced Thursday. Originialy set for Sept. 1, the game will now take place on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Las Vegas.
It marks the fifth time in the last 11 years that the Gophers will start a season on a weekday, as well as their first-ever meeting with UNLV.
"We received a request from UNLV and the Mountain West Conference to consider moving the game up two days and after carefully considering a number of different factors we have agreed to do so," senior associate athletics director Marc Ryan said in a news release.
A start time has yet to be set.
Kill's squad, which is currently prepping for the start of spring practices at the end of March, finished its 2011 campaign with a 3-9 record.
