Earlier this season outfielder Joe Benson was demoted from Triple-A Rochester to Double-A New Britain after hitting just .179/.269/.316 in 108 plate appearances with the Red Wings.

On Tuesday fellow outfielder Rene Tosoni was demoted to Double-A as well after hitting just .167 with two extra-base hits in 72 trips for Rochester. That batting average included a 5-for-5 performance against Gwinnett on Monday.

These demotions are particularly alarming for the Twins considering both Benson (21 games) and Tosoni (60) spent time in the big leagues in 2011.

Tosoni missed nearly a month in April due to a lacerated left ring finger.
