The Minnesota Twins announced Sunday that infielder Luke Hughes was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics.

Hughes, 27, was designated for assignment by the Twins last week to make room for the team to temporarily carry 13 pitchers.

In 335 career major league plate appearances since 2010 Hughes owns a .224/.285/.342 batting line with eight home runs and 12 doubles.
