Mikko Koivu won't be making his first appearance in the NHL All-Star Game after all.
The Minnesota Wild center will miss Sunday's game in Ottawa because of an injury to his left shoulder suffered nine days ago in St. Louis. The Wild's captain will be replaced by Edmonton Oilers right wing Jordan Eberle.
Koivu had been selected to the game for the first time in his seven-year career just before the injury happened.
Meanwhile, Wild forward Nick Johnson has been selected to join the group of rookies who will take part in the NHL All-Star Skills competition on Saturday night.
Johnson, 26, who was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins in September, has played in 44 games this season and has six goals and 10 assists. He is tied for 10th in scoring and 12th in goals among NHL rookies.
