Training camp still is more than a week away, and the Minnesota Wild already has lost one veteran to an injury.
Forward James Sheppard sustained a fractured patella in his left knee in an off-ice accident on Saturday night, the team announced on Tuesday in a media release that did not set a timetable for his return.
The Star Tribune reported Sheppard was in an ATV accident and will miss three to four months.
Sheppard, 22, has 11 goals and 38 assists in 224 games with the Wild over the past three seasons. He signed a one-year deal in June and was considered to be on the bubble to make the roster.
