Minnesota Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson was arrested for probable cause of driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning, per the Hennepin County Jail roster

A jail source confirmed to contributor Darren Wolfson that it is indeed the Vikings' receiver being held on a misdemeanor DWI charge.

Simpson leads the Vikings with 491 receiving yards off 33 receptions this season. He's on a second one-year deal after getting resigned last offseason, but has yet to score a touchdown in his 21 regular-season games with the Vikings.

Simpson pled guilty to a felony drug charge in March 2012 after enforcement officials tracked a shipment of more than two pounds of marijuana to his Kentucky home in September 2011 and was sentenced to three years probation he's still serving. He was suspended the first three games of his Vikings' career last season.

The roster has him booked at 5:39 a.m. early Saturday.

The Vikings issued a statement through a spokesperson: "The Vikings are aware of the matter involving Jerome Simpson. We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time."

This is the first Vikings' arrest since July 2012 when running back Adrian Peterson was charged -- and cleared -- of resisting arrest in his hometown of Houston.

Update: 12:38 p.m.

KSTPSports received Simpson's arrest information from Minnesota State Patrol:

A Minnesota State Trooper responded to a stalled vehicle on the side of westbound I-394 leaving downtown Minneapolis.

Simpson got out of the vehicle and the trooper said he showed signed of intoxication, that included watery eyes and slurred speech.

Simpson told the trooper he was coming from the Pour House and denied he was drinking.
The trooper had Simpson perform field sobriety tests and then arrested him for DWI.

Simpson was transported to the Hennepin County Jail. At the jail Simpson refused to take a breath test, according to the state patrol. Simpson was booked for DWI/Test Refusal at 5:39 a.m.

He is being held without bail and could remain in jail for 36 hours.

Update: 3:39 p.m.

Simpson was released on $12,000 bond early this afternoon.
