The Minnesota Twins parted ways with outfielder Joe Benson on Saturday.
Benson, who had been struggling at Triple-A Rochester with a .192 average and nine RBIs, was placed on outright waivers and quickly claimed by the Texas Rangers.
As a result of the move, a spot on the Twins' 40-man roster was opened to make way for starting pitcher P.J. Walters. Walters received word earlier in the week that he was being called up, but a corresponding roster move was not made right away.
Walters is slated to start Saturday afternoon at Detroit, one day after Samuel Deduno made his first start since being promoted. The Twins are currently in the midst of a 10-game losing streak.
