MINNEAPOLIS -- Francisco Liriano was magnificent on Sunday afternoon, leading the Minnesota Twins to a 4-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. The victory gave the Twins their eighth straight win and second consecutive series sweep.
Liriano (10-7, 3.18) dominated a depleted and sub-par Mariners lineup, throwing seven shutout innings while allowing only two hits and two walks. He threw 109 pitches and tied a season-high with 11 strikeouts.
Liriano hasn't give up a run in his last three starts -- a stretch that spans 21 innings.
Mariners starter Luke French held the Twins scoreless through five innings before giving up a bases-clearing double to Jason Kubel with one out in the bottom of the sixth, making it 3-0. Danny Valencia added an RBI single later in the inning to put the Twins up 4-0.
The Twins (59-46) moved a season-high 13 games over .500 with the victory.
On Monday, the Twins begin a four-game series on the road against Tampa Bay. RHP Carl Pavano (13-6, 3.21 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Jeremy Hellickson, who will make his major-league debut.
