The Twins confirmed right-hander Matt Fox was claimed by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday afternoon.

Fox, a first-round pick by the Twins in 2004, was called up as an emergency starter on September 3 against the Texas Rangers. He threw 5 2/3 innings and allowed only two earned runs, helping the Twins to a 4-3 victory.

Two days later, Fox was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Ben Revere.

Coincidentally, Fox might have a chance to help the Twins during the final week of the season, when the Red Sox travel to Chicago for a four-game series against the White Sox.
