A year ago, the NFL Network had Adrian Peterson atop its rankings of the 100 best players in the league. The Vikings running back no longer holds that lofty position but he didn't fall far.
Peterson placed fourth in the network's latest top 100 rankings, which were completed on Wednesday night as Nos. 1-10 were announced.
No. 1 on the list was Denver quarterback Peyton Manning. He was followed by Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson and New England quarterback Tom Brady.
The top 10 was rounded out by Peterson, Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy, New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman, Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles, Cincinnati wide receiver A.J. Green and New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham.
Last summer, Peterson was coming off a career-best season in which he rushed for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns and helped the Vikings rebound from a 3-13 season in 2011 to go 10-6 and make the playoffs. That made Peterson only the seventh player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season.
Peterson rushed for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns last season in 14 games.
