Appearing on 1500 ESPN this morning, manager Ron Gardenhire announced right-hander Pat Neshek (inflammation in right middle finger) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Gardenhire also said Joe Mauer's heel injury could keep him out week-to-week, rather than day-to-day as originally ancticipated. If Mauer is forced to go on the DL, Wilson Ramos -- who bats eighth in his major league debut today -- will be the starting catcher, with Drew Butera remaining the backup.
Regarding Neshek, Gardenhire hinted on 1500 ESPN last Friday that he could be in line for a stint at class-AAA Rochester, so clearly the Twins have been thinking about making a roster move for a few days.
Neshek has allowed only two hits, two walks and two runs in 4 1/3 innings this season, but his fastball currently tops out in the mid-80's, and he's struggled with command ever since injuring the finger.
