As expected, the Minnesota Timberwolves extended a qualifying offer to Nikola Pekovic on Thursday, making their starting center a restricted free agent.
Pekovic, 27, posted career highs in scoring (16.3 points per game), rebounding (8.8 per game) and minutes (31.6 per game) in his third NBA season. He finished 20th in the NBA in field-goal accuracy (52%), shot 74.4% from the free-throw line and collected 26 point/rebound double-doubles.
The 31st overall pick in the 2008 draft, Pekovic has appeared in 174 NBA games, starting 108. The NBA's free-agent negotiating period begins on Monday.
