Thomas Vanek is on the move but he's not headed back to Minnesota, at least not yet.
The Buffalo Sabres, off to a 2-10-1 start and having only five points throgh their first 13 games, reportedly dealt the winger to the New York Islanders on Sunday for forward Matt Moulson, who was a first-round draft pick in 2014 and a 2015 second-round pick.
Vanek, 29, will be an unrestricted free agent after this season and many believe that the former Gopher will sign with the Minnesota Wild. Vanek's wife, Ashley, is a Minnesota native.
Vanek, who has four goals and five assists in 13 games this season, also is good friends with Jason Pominville, whom the Wild acquired from the Sabres last season. Pominville signed a five-year, $28 million contract with the Wild just before the start of the season.
Vanek signed a seven-year, $50 million contract with the Sabres before the 2007-08 season.
