The Twins have added a sharp baseball mind to Ron Gardenhire's Major League coaching staff.

Paul Molitor will join the staff as the seventh coach, and will oversee base running, bunting, infield instruction and positioning, the team announced Tuesday.

The Hall of Famer will also assist with in-game strategy from the dugout.

He last coached in the Majors with the Seattle Mariners as the hitting coach in 2004. Molitor was on the Twins' coaching staff in 2000 and 2001 under manager Tom Kelly. He then worked as a minor league base running and infield coordinator with the Twins in 2003 and then again from 2005-2013.

The St. Paul native graduated from Cretin High School and attended the University of Minnesota. Molitor, 57, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004.
