The Minnesota Twins confirmed what manager Ron Gardenhire told 1500 ESPN Twin Cities during his weekly Friday radio interview -- Nick Punto (hamstring) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, and Nick Blackburn has been sent to Class-AAA Rochester.
Punto strained the hamstring in Wednesday's game at Kansas City, and an MRI showed a pulled muscle. To fill Punto's roster spot, the Twins have recalled shortstop Trevor Plouffe from Rochester. Plouffe is hitting .259/.318/.462 with 15 home runs an Triple-A this season.
On Friday afternoon, Gardenhire told 1500 ESPN that Blackburn "needs to start" in order to get himself right again.
Blackburn has appeared in just one game since being replaced in the starting rotation by Brian Duensing, allowing three runs on five hits in two innings of relief in Baltimore on July 25.
