Minnesota Vikings running back was absent from Thursday's practice for what coach Leslie Frazier called personal reasons. Late Thursday, Pro Football Talk reported that Peterson was dealing with a "tragic" matter involving a young family member.

Whitney, of the Argus Leader, said it was a "very serious" health situation.
On Friday morning, TMZ reported that Peterson's 2-year-old son is in critical condition in a South Dakota hospital after being assaulted by the man dating the child's mother.
The Argus Leader reported that Joseph Patterson has been charged with aggravated assault and agravated assault on an infant "for reportedly harming a 2-year-old boy who was in his care."
The county prosecutor involved spoke Friday morning and declined to identify the identity of the child's father, according to the Argus Leader. But ESPN.com Vikings reporter Ben Goessling tweeted that police confirmed Joseph Patterson is not the father of the two-year-old boy.
