Many have wondered why, in a lost season, why Christian Ponder continues to start at quarterback for the Vikings.

That may continue if the Vikings win Thursday night, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.

Washington is favored by 2 1/2 points on the road. The Vikings will be missing at least six starters to injury, including Chris Cook, Jamarca Sanford and Harrison Smith in the defensive secondary.

Eventually, it's reasonable to assume recently acquired free agent quarterback Josh Freeman will get another shot to start. For now, though, it appears it could be Ponder's job to lose.

Hard to figure. What if Ponder plays poorly Thursday but the Vikings still win? Readers, do you think that would change the equation?
