Free agent cornerback Brandon Flowers will reportedly choose his new team this week.
The Minnesota Vikings inquired about the Pro Bowl cornerback when Kansas City released him last week, eating $7 million in dead money across 2014 and 2015 to do so. Flowers reportedly has interest from about 10 teams, including the Vikings, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions.
Sounds like much-sought-after CB Brandon Flowers will make a decision on his next team sometime midweek. Plenty of suitors— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) June 22, 2014
Though the Vikings were in the mix, Flowers has not visited Minnesota. He reportedly wrapped up a visit with San Diego last week. It appears unlikely at this point that the Vikings land Flowers, who struggled in 2013 under defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. Sutton runs a pass defense that can be compared to what Mike Zimmer has ran in the past, one that emphasizes press and man coverage tactics.
Similarly, Vikings cornerback Derek Cox, primarily a press corner, left the Chargers to go to the Vikings because Minnesota provided him with a better schematic fit. Don't be surprised to see Flowers, primarily a zone corner, land in a defense like the Chargers for the same reason.
