Freeman, 26, joined the Vikings during their bye week last season and made one start on Oct. 21 against the previously winless Giants on Monday Night Football. Less than two weeks on the team, Freeman led a Vikings offense that was shutout as he threw 33 incompletions on 53 attempts in what appeared to be a head-scratching game plan.
Freeman worked out last week for the Chicago Bears, who lost former backup Josh McCown in free agency to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Giants' current backup situation for Eli Manning, who just had ankle surgery, includes career backup Curtis Painter and second-year passer Ryan Nassib.
Vikings confirm Coleman visit
The Minnesota Vikings confirmed the visit of former Philadelphia Eagles safety Kurt Coleman on Friday. According to Ben Goessling of ESPN.com, the Vikings offered Coleman a contract that he didn't initially accept.
The Vikings have safeties Harrison Smith, Jamarca Sanford, Andrew Sendejo, Mistral Raymond and safety/cornerback Robert Blanton under contract for 2014. Sanford and Raymond are free agents after next season.
