Out since early January nursing an injured right ankle, Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu may finally be on the brink of making his return to the ice.
The Star Tribune's Michael Russo reported that indications at the Wild's Sunday practice pointed to Koivu being back in the lineup on Monday when Minnesota faces the Calgary Flames.
The Wild are expected to wait until after Monday's morning skate before making a decision on Koivu's status, according to Russo.
Koivu has missed 17 games in the wake of undergoing surgery on his ankle on Jan. 6. The injury also forced him to miss joining his teammates on Finland's national team in the Sochi Olympics.
The Wild have certainly managed to stay afloat without Koivu. After sneaking out of Vancouver with a 2-1 shutout victory on Friday, the Wild return home on a four-game win streak and still firmly in the Western Conference playoff picture.
