The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released quarterback Josh Freeman, according to NFL reporter Adam Schefter.

Since Freeman was a vested veteran, he will not have to clear waivers. Tampa will pay him the remainder of his contract in exchange for wiping him from the roster, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. It allows both sides simply to be rid of each other.

It's not a surprising end to a dramatic rift between a new head coach and incumbent quarterback.

Now, fans of teams with a subpar quarterback will wait to see if their team pounces on the free agent.
