It appears those talks are related.
Citing two people with knowledge of the discussions, the Associated Press reported early Friday morning the Wolves offered Williams to the Charlotte Bobcats for this year's No. 2 overall pick as part of a larger effort to land Gasol from the Lakers.
The Bobcats ended up staying at No. 2 on Thursday night and selected Kentucky forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. But the Wolves are expected to continue their pursuit of Gasol, per the AP report.
Gasol, 31, is due $38 million over the next two seasons and the Lakers have been trying to shed payroll. They agreed to trade the four-time all-star to Houston before last season in the three-way Chris Paul trade that NBA commissioner David Stern squashed.
A Wolves source told 1500ESPN.com on Thursday the Wolves indeed had offered Williams to Charlotte and had talks with the Lakers about Gasol, as well as with Memphis about Rudy Gay, Philadelphia about Andre Iguodala and Houston about Kevin Martin.
