Washburn running back Jeff Jones has honored his verbal commitment and signed with the Gophers.
Jones is the biggest name many Gophers fans were watching Wednesday, National Signing Day. He was the No. 7 running back in the national class, according to Rivals.com.
Jones made his announcement in front of a crowd in the Washburn high school gym Wednesday morning. His decision was made official when the Gophers tweeted that his letter of intent had been received.
Academics still are a question for Jones, who will need a higher ACT score or GPA to play Division I football.
Jones will take the ACT again Saturday, according to Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune.
