Major League Baseball rules allow for teams to expand rosters beginning on Saturday, and the Minnesota Twins plan on calling up some pitching reinforcements from the minor leagues.
It's likely 28-year-old Esmerling Vasquez will start Sunday against the Kansas City Royals.
Vasquez has allowed only seven earned runs in 42 innings over his last seven appearances for Triple-A Rochester (five starts). Over that stretch he has struck out 44 while walking 17 and allowing only 26 hits.
P.J. Walters is also expected to join the Twins.
Position players are expected to be called up as their minor league seasons finish up next week.
