MINNEAPOLIS -- Ron Gardenhire will be back as the Twins manager through the 2015 season, the Twins formally announced Monday.

Following three seasons of at least 96 losses, there was wide speculation on the manager's job security, but Twins decided to retain the only man who has managed the club - through good seasons and bad - since 2002.

General Manager Terry Ryan, Twins owner Jim Pohlad and team President Dave St. Peter met over the weekend and decided to extend Gardenhire.

"We offered Ron the extension and he accepted. We're happy for that. He's a very good manager," said Ryan, who had the final decision on the matter.

"We've had a lot of success in this organization. We've fallen on some hard times, there's no doubt about that. Nobody's pretending that everything has gone well the last three years frankly. We need to clean it up and we think we have the right man in-house to do that and I'm very happy he's decided to come back."

Gardenhire, who addressed the media in a baby blue golf shirt, with gold necklaces and sunglasses around his neck, spoke highly of the organization and the chance to be back.

"I think for the people that have been around, the press that followed the ball club, this was a no-brainer for me, a pretty easy thing," Gardenhire said. "I love it here. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I know there was a lot of talk about other ball clubs. This is where I'm comfortable."
