Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez beat out Minnesota's Joe Mauer and Baltimore's Matt Wieters for the American League Gold Glove Award, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday night.

Mauer was named one of three finalists despite missing the last five weeks of the season due to a concussion and catching only 75 games. When he did catch, however, Mauer was one of the best in baseball, ranking seventh in Defensive Runs Saved and first in the American League with a 43% caught stealing rate.

Mauer currently owns three AL Gold Glove Awards.
