Tubby Smith didn't kick Trevor Mbakwe off the Gophers basketball roster for getting a DUI. Smith's son may not be so lucky.
The "U" announced on Sunday afternoon that assistant coach Saul Smith has been placed on indefinite unpaid administrative leave after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Saturday morning.
"While we do not want to rush to judgment before the legal process proceeds, Coach Tubby Smith and I are taking this matter seriously," athletic director Norwood Teague said in a statement issued by the school.
"University of Minnesota values dictate that our coaches and staff be positive role models for our student-athletes. As such, we are taking disciplinary measures while the legal system takes its course."
Saul Smith, the son of Tubby Smith, was pulled over early Saturday morning after leaving a downtown Minneapolis restaurant. According to the "U" release, Smith is a "first-time offender" and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3. He's in his sixth season with the Gophers.
