ST. LOUIS -- Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe was among seven Minnesota Vikings who didn't make the trip to St. Louis for Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams.
Shiancoe has been battling an unknown strain and missed significant practice time over the past week.
With the starters only set to play series in a meaningless game, the impact of the absences meant little for the Vikings offense, which didn't have anything close to its full stable during training camp.
Also not making the trip were: quarterback Brett Favre, receivers Percy Harvin (migraines) and Sidney Rice (hip, PUP), cornerback Cedric Griffin (knee reconstruction, PUP), linebacker J Leman (turf toe), center John Sullivan (calf) and tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (unknown strain).
There had been some question on Henderson, especially because of the artificial turf at the Edward Jones Dome. But he was out running and stretching about 2 hours before game time.
UPDATE, 7:13 p.m.: Henderson emerged in full pads and served as team captain for the coin toss. But he was wearing a visor by kickoff, and Jasper Brinkey got the start instead.
Jon Cooper started for Sullivan, Greg Lewis for Percy Harvin, Jimmy Kleinsasser for Shiancoe and Lito Sheppard for Asher Allen, who appeared atop the depth chart but has gotten fewer reps throughout camp.
