The Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team recorded their second shutout of the season, first for Michael Shibrowski, as they defeated the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks by the score of 3-0.
The Gophers (8-1-1) held a 1-0 lead for most of the game off defenseman Jake Bischoff's first period goal. Shortly after, the Mavericks had the equalizer from Dylan Margonari before it was waived off.
Shibrowski took the net over typical starting goalie and sophomore Adam Wilcox, who led Minnesota to a 4-1 victory over the Mavericks on Friday. Wilcox was healthy, but according to the Star Tribune, coaches elected to start the senior Shibrowski for his 'commitment to the team.'
The start led to Shibrowski's first career shutout.
Women's hockey wins 62nd straight
The impeccable stretch of perfect hockey continued for the University of Minnesota's women's hockey team on Saturday as they notched their 62nd straight victory, this one a 6-1 drubbing of No. 4 North Dakota at Ridder Arena.
Freshman Megan Wolfe scored her first two collegiate goals for No. 1 Minnesota as the Gophers racked up four goals in the second period alone to improve to 13-0-0, including 11-0-0 in the WCHA.
