EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson hobbled into the locker room with a ski mask covering his head and a protective boot surrounding most of his right leg on Monday.

After a second-quarter exit from an apparent right foot injury in Sunday's loss at Baltimore, Peterson had X-Rays and a MRI procedure that ruled out any ligament damage or major break of his foot.

But the NFL MVP still needs to go through more tests on Monday to know the full extent of his injury.

"Initially, you don't know exactly what's going on. The initial contact definitely didn't feel good," Peterson said. "I was kind of worried."

"It's still sore, just happened yesterday so it's still sore. [The foot] didn't swell up too much, so that's a positive."

"Kind of cleared up a bit when they gave me the MRI. We'll see how things play out after the CT scan."

The good news: Peterson said doctors ruled out a Lisfranc injury and any muscle and/or ligament tears.

The bad news: At 3-9-1, there's not much of a reason to rush Peterson back for the final three games of a lost season. There's a possibility he could be shut down should the injury hold him out for more than a week. Coach Leslie Frazier said the Vikings will consult with a foot specialist on Monday to help determine the extent of Peterson's injury.

"Of course [Lisfranc] was one thing that would pop up in your mind and one thing that I didn't want to hear," Peterson said. "Feels good having that cleared out."
