Wild forward Zach Parise has been named captain for Team USA in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

USA Hockey announced the move Friday, but Parise was made aware Tuesday. In the two games since, Parise has three goals, four assists and is a +4.

Parise was an alternate captain in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, the same letter he wears for the Wild.

Wild defenseman Ryan Suter will serve as an alternate captain this year. He also was an alternate in 2010 and wears an 'A' on his sweater for the Wild.

Dan Bylsma, head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins and of Team USA for these Olympic Games, had high praise for Parise, posted on the USA Hockey Twitter account Friday.

The U.S. plays its first game Feb. 13 against Slovakia.
